LaKisha Jones is now on Broadway

LaKisha JonesLaKisha Jones, the American Idol veteran, casted yesterday in the award-winning musical at the Broadway Theatre. Jones began her career singing in her church choir. Since then she has made much progress, though her singing talents will also be used on Broadway. Now she joined the Broadway musical of The Color Purple, where she will be covering the role of Sofia. The Color Purple currently stars “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino as Celie.

Becker and the Broadway Style Theatre in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City Mayor Elect Ralph Becker claims that the location of a Broadway style theater will be determined only when a countywide cultural facilities master plan is completed. According to the words of Sandy City officials, they want to be home to the 2,500 seat theater. Becker emphasizes that for the successful activity of the theater, it needs to be in the right location and the facilities analysis should provide some direction.

The Most Prominent Show on Broadway of the Spring Season

“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” is going to be one of the most prominent shows of the spring season on Broadway. Anika Noni Rose, Tony Award-winner, will be starring as Maggie the Cat in a production that also stars Terrence Howard, and Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones and Phylicia Rashad as Big Daddy and Big Momma.

Cindy Williams, known for playing Shirley Feeney on the long-running ABC-TV sitcom Laverne & Shirley, will show up in an award-winning Broadway musical for the first time in her life. The Broadway debut in such musical as The Drowsy Chaperone promises much success for the actress in the future.

P.S. Cindy Williams has been seen onstage in the national tours of Grease!, Deathtrap and Moon Over Buffalo. Her film credits include “American Graffiti,” “Travels with My Aunt” and “The Conversation.” In addition to “Laverne & Shirley,” Williams’ TV work includes “Eight Simple Rules,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Girlfriends,” “Less than Perfect,” “Strip Mall, “For Your Love” and “Getting By.”

Kristin Chenoweth will play in London?

Kristin Chenoweth is one of Broadway’s biggest stars. She can be headed to London to play Cunégonde in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide for the English National Opera. According to the New York rumors, Kristin Chenoweth will be staring with Toby Spence in Robert Carsen’s production, choreographed by the eminent Rob Ashford. It will result in 13 performances at the London Coliseum from June 23.

Steppenwolf Play On Broadway

Delayed by the nineteen-day stagehands strike, the production of “August: Osage County,” playwright Tracy Letts’ funny drama made its official debut on Broadway in front of a star-studded audience. The drama is about an Oklahoma family confronting the demons of its past. The audience at the Imperial Theater on West 45th Street included the members of Steppenwolf ensemble Joan Allen, Gary Sinise, and Laurie Metcalf, as well as such celebrities as Angela Lansbury and David Schwimmer, Chicago Lookingglass Theatre Company co-founder of television’s “Friends.”

Now that the nineteen-day-long stagehands strike has come to an end it seems to be like in old times around the Broadway. Theatres are once more alive with the sound of music of the stunning performances, like “A Chorus Line,” “Curtains,” “Jersey Boys” “Spamalot,” and “Wicked” being among those shows that are back on the boards. “Chicago” is back again with Maxwell Caulfield in a tux and “Hairspray” with George Wendt in drag
